Privacy Policy – SMP Connect
This Privacy Policy applies to the SMP Connect Android application, package name net.smpconnect.app. SMP Connect is operated by Trafficmanagers B.V., The Netherlands. Privacy and support enquiries can be sent to support@smpconnect.net.
1. What SMP Connect Does
SMP Connect is a local-network connection utility for compatible Minecraft Bedrock consoles. When the user explicitly starts a connection, the Android device temporarily advertises a local Bedrock/LAN endpoint on the same network. A compatible PlayStation or Xbox console can join that local endpoint and is then instructed to connect directly to the SMP server selected by the user.
The app currently offers presets for ninjismp.net and donutsmp.net, and also lets users enter a custom Minecraft Bedrock server address and port. After the Bedrock transfer has been sent, normal gameplay traffic goes directly between the console and the selected server; SMP Connect is not a gameplay proxy.
2. Data Accessed and Processed on the Device
To provide the connection feature, SMP Connect may temporarily access and process the following technical information on the Android device:
- local network addresses, ports and connection/session information;
- Minecraft Bedrock protocol packets required to create the temporary LAN session;
- Minecraft/Microsoft authentication payloads presented by the console during the temporary Bedrock login, solely to validate the local session;
- the Minecraft display name and player identity contained in validated login data while the local session is active; and
- connection state, selected server and technical status needed to operate the service.
The authentication payload, display name and player identity are handled in memory for the temporary connection process. SMP Connect does not intentionally upload these items to Trafficmanagers B.V. or store them in an app account database.
3. Information Stored Locally
SMP Connect stores a small amount of app configuration locally on the Android device so the user does not have to re-enter it each time. This can include:
- the last selected server type;
- a custom server hostname/address and port entered by the user; and
- whether the Android notification-permission prompt has already been requested.
These settings are stored using Android app preferences. Depending on the user's Android/Google backup settings, the operating system may include eligible local app settings in its own device backup mechanisms. Trafficmanagers B.V. does not operate that Android backup service.
4. Data We Do Not Collect Through the App
SMP Connect does not provide an SMP Connect account and does not ask users to enter an email address, postal address, payment card details, phone number or advertising identifier inside the app. The current app does not contain advertising, behavioural tracking or analytics SDKs.
The app does not request access to contacts, photos, videos, microphone, camera, precise location or approximate location.
5. Network Communication and Selected Servers
The local Bedrock session takes place between the Android device and the user's console or other compatible device on the same network. The app sends the selected server address and port to the console as part of the Minecraft transfer process.
When the console connects to a selected SMP server, that server is a separate service and may receive information from the console according to Minecraft's protocol and the server operator's own practices. This applies to NinjiSMP, DonutSMP and any custom server selected by the user. Users should review the privacy information of the relevant server operator where applicable.
DonutSMP is a third-party service and is not operated by or affiliated with Trafficmanagers B.V. or SMP Connect. Custom servers are chosen by the user and are outside our control.
6. Android Permissions and Foreground Service
SMP Connect uses Android network and service permissions only to provide its core connection function. The app declares Internet/network/Wi-Fi state access, multicast access, a wake lock, foreground-service permissions for a connectedDevice service, and Android's notification permission.
On Android 13 and later, the app asks for notification permission when the user starts a connection for the first time, not simply when the app opens. If granted, Android can show the ongoing SMP Connect connection notification in the normal notification area. The service notification includes a Stop action. Android controls how foreground-service notices are surfaced if notification permission is denied.
The foreground service is started only after the user initiates a connection. It keeps the temporary local-network connection available while the user switches to Minecraft or the app is no longer in the foreground. A partial wake lock and Wi-Fi multicast lock may be held while this connection service is active and are released when the service stops.
For a plain-language explanation, see Android Permissions & Foreground Service.
7. Sharing, Selling and Advertising
Trafficmanagers B.V. does not sell personal information collected by SMP Connect. The current app does not use advertising networks or analytics services. Local-session information is used to provide the connection requested by the user and is not intentionally transmitted to Trafficmanagers B.V. for profiling or advertising.
If the user chooses to open an external destination such as the NinjiSMP Discord community, the destination service may process information under its own terms and privacy policy. Opening an external link is a user-initiated action.
8. Retention and Deletion
Temporary Bedrock authentication and session information is designed to remain only in memory for the period needed to perform the local connection and transfer. Local app preferences remain on the Android device until changed, cleared or removed by the user, subject to Android backup/restore behaviour controlled by the user's device settings.
The app does not create a persistent SMP Connect user account. To remove local app settings, users can clear SMP Connect's storage in Android Settings or uninstall the app. More details are available on the Data & Deletion page.
If a user contacts support by email, the email address, message and any information the user chooses to include may be retained in our support systems for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain security, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. Users may request deletion of eligible support correspondence by contacting support@smpconnect.net.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the service. SMP Connect validates Minecraft authentication information used during the temporary local Bedrock session and does not intentionally persist those authentication payloads. No device, network or software system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Children's Privacy
Minecraft is popular with younger players. SMP Connect is designed as a technical connection utility and does not require an app account, advertising profile, payment details or an email address to use its core function. Parents and guardians should supervise children's use of online multiplayer, external servers and third-party communities. External services may have their own age requirements and policies.
If you are a parent or legal guardian with a privacy question relating to a child's use of SMP Connect, contact support@smpconnect.net.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on applicable law, including the GDPR, you may have rights concerning personal information processed by Trafficmanagers B.V., such as rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability where applicable. Because SMP Connect does not create an app account or upload the temporary local-session data described above to our account database, we may not hold app-specific personal information that can be matched to a particular user.
Privacy requests can be submitted to support@smpconnect.net. We may need sufficient information to verify and process a request.
12. Third-Party Services and Trademarks
Minecraft, Microsoft, Xbox, PlayStation, Discord, DonutSMP and other third-party products, services and trademarks are controlled by their respective owners. Except where expressly stated, SMP Connect is not endorsed by, sponsored by or affiliated with those third parties.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, its data practices or applicable requirements change. The current version will remain available at https://app.smpconnect.net/privacy-policy.php with the latest revision date.
